Police arrested a Riverdale High School bookkeeper accused of stealing money from students and charged her with theft by conversion.
Deputies say bookkeeper Jacqueline Caldwell is suspected of keeping $3,000 cash from senior fees. They say a conceed parent brought the issue to their attention.
Caldwell was taken into custody Friday afteoon at Riverdale High School.
She told reporters she didn’t steal any money from the school when asked why she was under arrest
”Well, I know there were some irregularities in something, but no, I didn’t steal anything, Caldwell said. ”I don’t know what happened, she said.
Clayton County police Detective Duane Hiers says their investigation determined the bookkeeper was the last person with the bulk of the money.
Clayton County Schools Police Chief Clarence Cox says he wants to send a message - When parents pay their hard-eaed money for student fees they deserve for the money to wind up helping students.
Caldwell told Winne she believes someone else took the money.
”If anybody knows my life, I don't have it, she said.
As for whether there are other suspects, investigator Hiers says the investigation is not done
