Police arrest Jeffries Anderson in shooting death of SE Atlanta man Jonathan Newton

Atlanta Police said they have arrested a man accused of shooting another man to death during a burglary attempt at a southeast Atlanta apartment last month.

According to police, Jonathan Newton, 30, was shot and killed in October at the Alexan EAV apartments on Metropolitan Avenue in East Atlanta.

Police said Newton came home for lunch to find the intruder, identified as Jeffries Anderson burglarizing his apartment. Newton got into a fight with him, and was fatally shot.

Anderson then fled the scene and had been on the run for nearly a month before being taken into custody.

According to police, Anderson was caught on surveillance video.

Five more burglaries reported at complex

There have been five other burglaries at the complex in recent months.

Two happened on the same day in September and three happened on the same day in October.
