Passenger Jude Poitevien accused of swallowing 68 cocaine pellets stopped at airport
Police arrested a man who told customs agents at Hartsfield-Jackson Inteational Airport he had consumed multiple pellets of cocaine.
Jude Poitevien confessed to swallowing the narcotics after he arrived in Atlanta on a Delta flight from Venezuela on May 26, according to court documents.
Officers said they questioned Poitevien about his itinerary, how recently he had booked his flight and his traveling partner who was arrested in London for attempting to import narcotics.
Poitevien, an American citizen, then admitted to the customs officer that he had swallowed 68 pellets of cocaine, and he consented to an X-ray at a nearby hospital, according to federal documents.
The man later told agents he was recruited to smuggle drugs and was told he would be paid $1,000 for every 10 pellets he swallowed.
Pellets taken from Poitevien tested positive for cocaine, according to the affidavit.
Poitevein is charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.
