A person was killed after his SUV fell nearly 20 feet onto Interstate 85 Thursday moing.

College Park Police said the driver of the Ford Explorer tried to change lanes on I-285 East near the Atlanta airport, when it collided with another car.

”It takes a pretty good impact, probably a lot of speed as well, College Park police Sgt. Eddie Atkins told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach.

Investigators said both the SUV and car hit the wall after what police call a ”pit maneuver.

"Causing the SUV to go sideways and pretty sure at that point the tires grabbed and caused it to start rolling, said Atkins.

The SUV tued sideways, rolling over, hitting a concrete barrier wall. It then rolled over the wall and landed in the shoulder area of I-85 north, about 20 feet below.

The male driver of the SUV was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car was also injured and taken to a hospital.

Two right lanes of I-85 south were blocked due to the crash investigation, backing up traffic for miles.
