Officer shoots at robbery suspect LeRon Boone

An officer-involved shooting shut down a major north Fulton County road during the moing commute Wednesday.

Sandy Springs police said they were called to a Citgo gas station on Roswell Road south of Interstate 285 shortly after 6 a.m. A man said another man pulled a gun on him during a robbery outside the Food Mart, police said.

When an officer arrived, the man was sitting in a car.

”When the officer approached him, [he] actually did pull a gun, which caused the officer to pull his weapon and fire, Sandy Springs police Lt. Steve Rose told Channel 2’s Sophia Choi.

Rose said the officer shot once, but the man was not hit. The man then ran out of his car, but officers tackled him and made their arrest at the other end of the road, Rose said.

Several police cars were blocking Roswell Road between Lake Placid and Glenridge drives while officers investigated. The road was closed for more than two hours.

”Traffic was terrible. I'm already 18 minutes late to work. I’ve got to go back through back roads, pick up 85. It's a pain in the neck," driver Mike Licata said.

Police identified 34-year-old LeRon Boone, of Stone Mountain, as their suspect. He faces several charges including, robbery, weapons violations and obstructing justice.
