Nurse Amy M. Armstrong charged with stealing drugs, elder abuse
Amy M. Armstrong, 40, was arrested Tuesday.

A Woodstock hospice nurse has been charged with stealing narcotic pain killers from an elderly patient.

Amy M. Armstrong, 40, was arrested Tuesday after agents with a Cherokee narcotics squad using video technology observed Armstrong taking the pills from the elderly patient at the patient’s home.

A family member had alerted authorities to the possible theft of the pain killers that were prescribed to the hospice patient. When agents arrested Armstrong, they found more pills in her possession, including pain killers and anti-depressants, Cherokee authorities said.

Armstrong is charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, two counts of elder abuse, and two counts of possession of controlled substances.

She remains in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center under a $75,000 bond, according to Cherokee authorities.
