No Charges Filed Against Dominique Wilkins In Fight

ATLANTA -- No charges will be filed against former Atlanta Hawks star Dominique Wilkins following a fight at Philips Arena on March 30.

"The APD has no plans to pursue criminal charges against Mr. Wilkins," Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos wrote in an email to Channel 2.

The scuffle was caught on amateur video and was posted online by a celebrity tabloid TV show.

"The video only captures a portion of the incident," Campos wrote.

Police have charged 36-year-old Rashan Michel in the attack. Michel, who maintains Wilkins assaulted him, went on the radio claiming that Wilkins, a Hawks vice president and TV analyst, owes him nearly $13,000. Michel's mug shot showed him with a swollen eye.

"The security guard grabbed me first and then Dominique came over 'cause I was like, 'Man you sure you don't want to work this out?' and you know, he was like '(expletive).'"

Atlanta police said Michel was the aggressor.

"The decision to charge only Mr. Michel with simple battery was based on more than one eyewitness account that described him as the aggressor towards Mr. Wilkins," Campos wrote.

Michel sells custom clothing to celebrities. He said all he wants is to be paid for his services.

Wilkins has declined to comment on the incident.
