NEWNAN, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a Newnan police officer that happened Sunday night.

The Newnan Police Department told CBS Atlanta News that it happened at the home of Officer Josh Keller, a four-year veteran of the department.

Newnan police said that Keller was handling a firearm that he had purchased when the weapon discharged and struck his girlfriend in the abdomen.

"It was scary to think that there are guns over there," said neighbor Michele Clements.

"I'd actually be pretty shocked if something was premeditated. If they were having family squabbles we probably would have heard about it," said neighbor Robert Yeats.

The GBI was called in by the Coweta County Sheriff's Department to investigate the shooting.

Crystal McCarty, 24, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where she died from her injuries.

Officer Keller is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the GBI investigation.

CBS Atlanta News has leaed that Officer Keller refers to himself as JKiller on his MySpace page. There also were references to death on the page.

"Were you aware that he goes by JKiller on MySpace?" asked CBS Atlanta reporter Adam Murphy.

"No sir, I'm not," said Newnan Police Chief Douglas Meadows.

Chief Meadows told CBS Atlanta that Keller's MySpace page will now be a part of the investigation.

"Does this conce you?" asked Murphy.

"Yes, sir, it does and we'll take a look at it," said Meadows.
