Newly engaged couple Ariel Campbell and Alex McLeroy killed in Carroll County crash
A Carroll County couple that had just announced their engagement on Christmas Day were laid to rest Sunday.
Ariel Campbell and Alex McLeroy were killed in a traffic accident along State Highway 16 in Coweta County.
"They both were very much in love with each other, pastor Stephen Peeples said. ”Ariel was a very sweet, kind-hearted young lady."
Campbell and McLeroy got engaged on Christmas Day. Ariel was 19 years old. Alex was 24. They were ready to start a life together.
But just five days later, their Envoy ran off the road during heavy rain and into some trees.
The pair attended Roopville Road Baptist Church.
Peeples did his best to comfort the two families.
It wasn’t easy but he says Campbell and McLeroy were people of faith and that's what's needed to get through such a difficult time as this.
"That's what carries us through, Peeples said. ”Knowing they're spending eteity with the Lord, in the presence of the Lord. And as painful as the tragedy is, the flip side of that coin is knowing where they're spending eteity is the bright side of the coin."
Campbell and McElroy were laid to rest side by side at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen.
Tuesday afteoon, Channel 2’s Bedt Petersen talked to the stepfather of one of the victims, who told him how the two families are trying to get through this.
"We all gathered and rallied around each other. Looking to God for his strength and mercy and grace -- to help us," Rich Odell said.
Odell says he has tried his best to help everyone through this, but he says it is the family's faith that has made the difference.
"If there's anything I've said or done through this that has helped somebody, it's only because He did it through me," Odell said with a sigh.
