Nanny Eun Gabelman charged with leaving child in hot car

Police have arrested a nanny they said left a 4-year-old child in a hot car with one window slightly cracked while she went shopping.

Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh obtained the 911 calls that came in during the incident.

The calls document the scary moments for the police officer and several witnesses when the child would not respond to their shouts.

"Little boy, come on wake up! Wake up! Little boy? Little boy? He is not waking up," the caller said on the recording.

Police said the woman in the 911 call was one of several people surrounding a car in a parking lot off Pleasant Hill Road last week.

OPERATOR: "Now is the window down to the vehicle?"

CALLER: "No. It's cracked."

OPERATOR: "You do say that he's breathing correct?"

CALLER: "I saw his chest go up. But his breathing is, to me like his face getting flushed. And his breathing is like someone that would be a heavy snorer."

"The child was unresponsive. It wasn't answering to any calls. People were banging on the windows trying to get its attention," said Cpl. Ed Ritter of the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Officers and emergency responders arrived in about 13 minutes.

It was about then police said Eun Gabelman approached the car saying she was the child's nanny.

In a police report, the responding officer noted when the woman finally opened the door, a "gush of hot air came out."

"They believe the child was suffering from some type of heat stroke and was transported to the hospital," Ritter said.

Police said the child was treated for dehydration and was expected to be alright.

Gabelman was taken to jail and charged with second-degree cruelty to children.

Kavanaugh spoke to some workers inside a clothing store who said their security video shows Gabelman inside the store for about 30 minutes.

Gabelman bonded out of jail. Kavanaugh was unable to get ahold of the child's mother.
