Murder Charges Dropped Against Clarence Mahone, Kubiat Ekperikpe
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Murder charges have been dropped against two Columbus men implicated in a July 2009 shooting death.
Prosecutors on Tuesday asked a Muscogee County Superior Court judge to dismiss murder and aggravated assault charges against 24-year-old Clarence Mahone and 34-year-old Kubiat Ekperikpe.
They'd been accused in the death of Maurice Hollis. Jurors acquitted 26-year-old Carlos Brown of similar charges last week.
Senior Assistant District Attoey LaRae Moore said the Brown's acquittal made prompted the decision.
Mahone pleaded guilty on Tuesday to theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. .
Moore said that Mahone was found after the shooting in a hotel room with a stolen .38-caliber revolver that was loaded.
