Missing Student Bryce Tarter Died From Accidental Drowning

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a 19-year-old Savannah college student found dead in his submerged pickup truck last spring died from an accidental drowning.

The GBI has released its investigative findings in the case of Bryce Tarter of Kittery Maine, whose truck police discovered in April beneath the waters of a creek near Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Tarter's body was found inside the truck nearly three months after he went missing from the Savannah campus.

Investigators concluded Tarter probably drove into the water at 25 to 45 miles per hour. Investigators suspect he may not have seen the creek at the end of the road.

A toxicology report was inconclusive, saying the body was too badly decomposed to test for drugs or alcohol.
