Michael Bernard Hughey Indicted By Grand Jury Accused of Shooting DeKalb Officer
Michael Bernard Hughey, 37 is accused of shooting Officer Deron Fulton, 24.

Convicted felon Michael Beard Hughey, accused of shooting a DeKalb police officer was indicted by a grand jury Thursday. Hughey, 37 is accused of shooting Officer Deron Fulton, 24.

Investigators say Officer Fulton tried to approach Hughey during a routine traffic stop around 8:30 that evening. They say Hughey opened fire, striking the officer in the shoulder.

The search for Hughey near Bouldercrest Road and 285 was intense and police say a tip ultimately led them to the shooting suspect who was hold up at a Stockbridge Hotel.

A DeKalb County grand jury indicted Hughey on several charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

If convicted, Hughey is facing up to 50 years in behind bars.
