Meth mom Staci Lashomb sentenced to 17 years in prison in infant daughter's death
A Coweta County woman has been sentenced to serve 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to accidentally suffocating her 4-month-old daughter last year while she slept alongside her.
Staci L. Lashomb pleaded guilty on Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter as part of a plea deal in the death of Makaelyn L. Lashomb.
She was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 17 to serve. Lashomb was originally charged with second-degree murder.
Police believe Lashomb's drug use led to her infant's July 2015 death because the baby died while in the bed with Lashomb at home.
An autopsy confirmed the baby died of asphyxiation.
Lashomb and her two-year-old daughter both tested positive for methamphetamine. The infant did not.
Her attoey, Jemario Davis, says the death wasn't intentional and Lashomb is remorseful.
