Meth Lab Causes Fire At Augusta Motel Knight's Inn

AUGUSTA, Ga. - A 31-year-old man has been arrested on drug charges after his makeshift methamphetamine lab caused a fire in an Augusta motel room.

The Richmond County sheriff's office said Charles Barratta of Guyton was charged Thursday with manufacturing methamphetamine after a small blaze at the Knight's Inn.

Barratta told police that he was in the motel one night and left the lab unattended just before the fire started. Someone managed to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.

No one was injured, but authorities said the room will have to be renovated.
