Mega Millions sets record $476M jackpot

With no winning ticket for more than two months, the Mega Millions jackpot has reached a United States record.

No tickets matched Tuesday’s drawing of 9, 19, 34, 44, 51 with Mega Ball No. 24, rolling the jackpot over to an estimated $476 million, the largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The last winning Mega Millions ticket was sold in Georgia for the Jan. 24 drawing, with a prize of $71 million.

Mega Millions drawings are held at the WSB-TV studios in Midtown Atlanta and aired live at 11 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are estimated at around 1 in 176 million.

The current jackpot broke the record set in 2007 with a $390 million Mega Millions jackpot split between winners in Georgia and New Jersey.

Tuesday night’s jackpot was increased prior to the drawing due to an increase in sales.

Forty-two states, as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington D.C. participate in Mega Millions.
