Popular singles web site Match.com is unveiling a plan to start plucking known perverts from its dating pool.

The 16-year matchmaking business will start running its customers through a national sex offender registry to insure its dream dates don't tu nightmarish.

The change in policy came after a Califoia entertainment executive filed a lawsuit last week charging she was sexually assaulted by a man she met through the dating service.

On their second date, the lawsuit charged, the man brought the woman back to her house - and forced her to perform a sexual act.

The victim claimed a simple background check would have exposed the man's past, which her lawyer said included a history of violence and sexual assault.

Match.com president Mandy Ginsberg said company officials had considered the screening process in the past, and the decision to use the registry was not in direct response to the lawsuit.

But Matthew Traub, a company spokesman, said the process was accelerated by the widespread interest in the suit.

Match.com said it hopes to implement the new policy in two to three months.

\"We've been advised that a combination of improved technology and an improved database now enables a sufficient degree of accuracy to move forward with this initiative, despite its continued imperfection,\" Ginsberg said.
