MARY J Blige's father, Thomas Blige, is in a critical condition after his ex-girlfriend stabbed him three times, including once in the neck.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that Thomas Blige, 63, and his 50-year-old unnamed ex-girlfriend, have had seven domestic violence complaints between the two since August.

On January 10, the woman was placed in six months probation and ordered to have "non-assaultive contact with Blige."

Police arrived at the Arbors of Battle Creek apartment complex where Blige lives at 6:58am yesterday when they found the victim and the knife used.

Blige's ex girlfriend was apprehended in her home in the same apartment complex and was wearing "blood splattered clothing" when she was found.

She has been charged with "assault with intent to murder."

Blige is recovering at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan after undergoing surgery. He remains in a critical condition.

Mary J Blige is yet to comment on the incident.
