Marta to Refund Passengers For Snowstorm Shutdown

ATLANTA - Atlanta's public transit system is offering refunds to passengers who lost money when a winter storm stopped bus service.

MARTA officials said passengers who can prove they lost prepaid bus fares during a two-day shutdown of bus service on Jan. 10-11 will be eligible for a two-day unlimited ride pass.

MARTA spokeswoman Ryland McClendon told WSB-TV that the transit agency apologizes for the inconvenience. She said bus service was halted because authorities believed the roads were too dangerous. Bus service was not fully restored for another five days.

Trantavis Wheeler said he paid $17 for a weekly pass, but could only ride the bus for a single day before the storm hit. He wants a bigger refund since buses in his neighborhood were not running for days.
