Married minister Randy Rowell plans sex with child, gets arrested in internet sting
Jeff Davis County deputies say a Hazelhurst minister was caught in an internet child sex sting operation out of Telfair County.
According to the Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson, Randy Wade Rowell, 58, from Hazelhurst was arrested Wednesday after allegedly planning to meet a child for sex.
According to Steverson, deputies working with the GBI's Inteet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force made contact with Rowell several weeks ago.
Investigators, posing as an underage female, arranged to meet Rowell at a secluded location in Telfair County Wednesday.
When he arrived, he was greeted by officers, including Sheriff Steverson.
Rowell reportedly admitted he brought an alcoholic beverage for the rendezvous and told officers that he planned to give it to the child.
Rowell was charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation and solicitation for sexual conduct with a child.
Rowell, who is 58, told investigators he is married and the pastor of a church.
According to Steverson, Rowell remains in custody awaiting bond.
