Marietta police seek home invasion robbery suspect
Authorities in Marietta are trying to find the man who broke into a home on Hazel Street, and assaulted and robbed an elderly woman.
Investigators with the Marietta Police Department tell FOX 5 News that a man forced his way into the home early Sunday moing. They say the man overpowered the victim, and threatened her if she did not cooperate. He made off with cash and jewelry.
"Sometime in the early moing hours, we speculate between 4 and 6 a.m., an unknown male entered the house through violence. He forced his way into the house and was able to subdue one of the homeowners inside physically. He threatened further violence if the homeowner did not comply with his demands," said Officer David Baldwin of the Marietta Police Department
"It just goes to show you, you're not really safe anywhere nowadays," said neighbor Lynn Hanley.
For neighbors in this area of Marietta, that sense of security was shattered after the early moing home invasion on Sunday.
"She was the perfect victim. She's older, she probably would not resist, she doesn't have animals, doesn't have dogs, she's probably not armed," said Hanley.
Neighbor David Acuff called the attack "shocking."
Neighbors say the entire incident has them taking a long hard look at their own security.
"I definitely don't worry about it myself. I feel confident that nobody's gonna come break into my house but I guess that could happen just about anywhere," said Acuff.
"I've got three dogs that will let me know when there is something going on outside, and I have other protection too," said Hanley.
Police do not have a good description of the suspect. They are asking that any with information on this home invasion robbery to call the Marietta Police Department at 770-794-5300.
