Maria C. Waltherr-Willard, teacher with phobia of young kids, sues school district
Maria C. Waltherr-Willard may have been diagnosed with a phobia of young children but, undaunted, she pressed on with her teaching career.
In her lawsuit against the Mariemont School District in Cincinnati, Ohio, however, Waltherr-Willard accuses her employer of 35 years of discriminating against her because of her phobia, sex and age.
She alleges that the school district knew about her "severe anxiety around young children" and yet denied her request for a transfer to a high-school teaching position after she endured a stint at Mariemont Junior High School, which forced her into early retirement at age 59.
