Man Accused of Killing 5-Year Old Son to be in Court

A DeKalb County man accused of killing his own child is due in court Tuesday to face murder charges.

Police say Gary Detoma confessed to killing his 5-year old son in an hour long interview Monday night. Detoma also faces aggravted assault charges in trying to harm his 4-year son.

The child was discovered Monday at the father's apartment in Decatur.

Police say they were called to the East Lake Drive apartment of Gary Detoma Monday when the man didn't show up for work.

Authorities say Detoma's 4-year-old son answered the door and the other child was found dead in an upstairs bedroom with the father.

Police are now awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police expect the results of the autopsy Tuesday.

Officers say they had been called out to the home earlier in the day when the children weren't retued from their weekend visitation with Detoma.

Police say that time they found no signs of anyone inside.

Detoma's court appearance is scheduled for 5:30 Tuesday afteoon.
