A Cobb County Lyft driver was arrested after he allegedly raped a passenger.

Jerome Antonio Booze, 39, of Decatur, was arrested and charged on Thursday with felony rape after police said he sexually assaulted a woman while giving her a ride home after a night out.

Police said the woman used the Lyft service to get a ride home from the Anchor Bar in northeast Atlanta on Dec. 10 to her home in Vinings when the incident took place.

Police said instead of dropping the victim off at her apartment, the driver took her to a parking lot and sexually assaulted her. The victim was in no condition to consent.

According to Lyft's website, they do full background checks on drivers, eliminating anyone with a felony, violent or sex crimes.

A Lyft representative released a statement saying;

”We are devastated by this news. The individual in question has been banned from using the Lyft app. We have been assisting law enforcement and are available to continue supporting the authorities in their investigation.

Booze is being held without bond in the Cobb County Jail.
