Jackson police announced Wednesday night they have arrested a suspect for the shooting death of Nolan Ryan Henderson.

The Stone Mountain student was shot while at a pool party in Jackson, Mississippi.

Investigators said they have arrested Jarrod Emerson, 25, and charged him with Henderson's death. Police confirmed Emerson is Henderson's cousin.

Officers said based on interviews, Henderson had gotten into a fight at an apartment complex swimming pool with members of the JSU football team.

Emerson told police that Henderson had called him and asked him to come over because he had been assaulted.

Police said Emerson met up with Henderson and went back to the apartment complex to confront the team members.

Investigators said Emerson had a gun on him when they arrived back at the apartment complex pool and opened fire.

Officers said everyone scatted and ran and that's when they found Henderson shot to death.

Henderson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Emerson was arrested Wednesday afteoon and charged with murder.

The college released a statement Wednesday night saying, "This is a sad ending to a tragic situation," said Jackson State University President Carolyn W. Meyers. "The Jackson State University family continues to mou for Nolan and will offer all of the support we can to the Henderson family. We will also continue to provide our complete support to the Jackson Police Department until its case is brought to full closure."
