A Fulton County police officer is recovering after he was seriously injured in a fiery crash that destroyed his patrol car.

Investigators said Officer Matt Williams was driving south on Old National Highway responding to a emergency call when a Range Rover pulled out of a shopping center parking lot directly in his path.  The violent impact sent Williams' car across a couple of curbs before it burst into flames.  Police said a passerby stopped and pulled Williams out of the buing vehicle.

"It was kind of a scary sight," said Jason Jones, who witnessed the collision.  "The impact was probably one of the loudest noises I've heard in my life."

Police charged Taray Hall, of Jonesboro, with DUI and failure to yield.  He was booked into the Fulton County jail.

Williams suffered a broken leg and broken arm and is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital.
