Job Cuts Likely at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital

ATLANTA -- Officials at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital say that because of a reduction in govement funding, some job cuts will likely be necessary.

CEO Michael Young said that labor accounts for about 50 percent of total costs.

Hospital spokesman Matt Gove said Grady is set to receive $63 million from the state Indigent Care Trust Fund this year, down $25 million from last year.

The fund is federal money administered through the state. Gove said the amount hospitals get depends on how much indigent care is provided compared to payments received.

Young didn't said which departments would be affected by layoffs, but doctors and nurses won't be among them.
