Investigators search for mother of child dropped off at Stone Mountain police station
Investigators are trying to figure out who a child belongs to after a DeKalb County woman dropped the child off at the Stone Mountain Police Department.
"I don't know this baby belongs to and that's what is really bothering me," said the woman, who did not want to be identified.
The woman said her sister brought the toddler to her house around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and told Channel 2's Erica Byfield her sister said she was going to the store, but never came back.
"I kept the baby oveight, I fed him, make sure he was OK, but he seems to be pretty well kept. The shoes smell like they just came out of the box," the woman said.
The boy was dressed in a matching outfit.
The woman said she tried to reach her sister on her phone and on Facebook but could not track her down.
The woman also told Byfield her sister does not have any children.
Thursday moing, the woman brought the boy to the police department. A Stone Mountain officer then contacted DeKalb County police.
Eventually, the woman announced she was going home and walked out of the police station, leaving the child with a DeKalb County officer, Byfield and her photographer.
The DeKalb officer radioed for help and a couple of minutes later two other DeKalb officers arrived with a car seat.
The officers then loaded the boy into the back of a patrol car. A spokesperson for DeKalb police told Byfield the officers took the boy to the Department of Family and Child Services.

Investigators are looking for a parent of this child dropped off at Stone Mountain police.
A DFCS spokeswoman told Byfield she could not confirm or deny the boy was in DFCS care.
The spokeswoman said the department's investigators always work to identify a child's legal guardian.
She told Byfield if a child is determined to be abandoned, there would have to be a dispositional hearing in court.
