Infant in stroller struck, killed by SUV in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A 14-month-old girl strapped in a stroller was struck and killed by an SUV as her mother crossed a parking lot.

The tragic incident happened at Lenora Park in Gwinnett County.

"The child was in the stroller at the time it was struck. It was being wheeled across the parking lot by its mother," said Gwinnett County police Cpl. Brian Kelly.

Police said the infant was rushed to Children's Healthcare in serious condition.

Hours later, Channel 2’s George Howell leaed from investigators that the girl died from her injuries.

Howell watched as detectives spoke with the driver of the SUV.

Police said it doesn't look as if the driver was speeding when the accident happened, at which point the vehicle was in reverse.

Investigators said the investigation is still under way as they try to determine exactly how it happened.
