Humane Society Rescues 84 Dogs, Puppies

The Atlanta Humane Society rescued 84 dogs and puppies Friday from a south Georgia town that has no system set up to care for the animals.

Workers with the Atlanta Humane Society said the dogs, most of which are rat terriers, were living in cramped cages and were not getting socialized.

"Conditions out there were deplorable," said Atlanta Humane Society's Miguel Abihassan. "Some of these poor animals were standing in over six inches of feces. They didn't have any of the basic pet care standards – no food, no water and some in direct sunlight."

The Atlanta Humane Society hopes to have the dogs cleaned up and given a proper health screening by Monday.

They also hope to start adoptions of the dogs that day. For more information, check out atlantahumane.org .
