GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A home invasion suspect was shot by a Gwinnett County police officer on Monday moing, authorities said.

The shooting happened on at a home on Weatherford Road near Norcross.

Police told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh that a woman called to report a man was banging a brick on her door and trying to enter her home.

Officers arrived at the scene and spotted a man matching the woman’s description in a neighbor’s yard. Police have not yet said why the officer drew his weapon on the man.

Officials said the officer was not hurt. The suspect was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Kavanaugh spoke to the woman inside the home when the man was banging on the door.

”They got him, so in the end, I guess that’s all that really matters, the woman said.

Officers told Kavanaugh there was another home invasion in a nearby neighborhood around 8 a.m. Residents said a man entered their home and used a stick to threaten people there.

Police told Kavanaugh the description of that invader matches the description of the man who was shot by police, however, they did not know if the crimes were related.
