Hillary Clinton is coming to Georgia in support of Michelle Nunn for Senate
According to an exclusive report by Politico, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to campaign for Georgia Democrat Michelle Nunn, candidate for U.S. Senate, sometime before the Nov. 4th election.
Clinton, a former U.S. Senator, has prioritized the Senate races in her fall schedule to help Democrats maintain their fragile majority in the upper chamber. Georgia’s competitive race could very well be a deciding factor in the fight for majority.
Nunn needs a boost in the female vote. Quite surprisingly, the Democrat is polling either slightly ahead or behind her Republican opponent David Perdue among women. She is also losing among independents by double-digits.
Most importantly, for Nunn a high Democratic tuout is a deciding factor. She’s already behind Perdue by an average of 3.4 points, and that’s with a third party spoiler, Libertarian Amanda Swafford, who is drawing from Republican support. Since the race is likely to end up in a runoff and without Swafford, Nunn’s chances look bleak, especially with a low tuout.
”Secretary Clinton will be a great motivator to get Democrats out to the polls which is always critical in a midterm election, said Guy Cecil, executive director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. ”She is also the perfect person to speak directly to women and independent voters across the country about what is at stake, from women’s health to giving everyone a fair shot at success.
Nunn already hosted former President Bill Clinton and First Lady Michelle Obama in Atlanta for fundraising and get-out-the-vote efforts, but none of the visits moved polling her way.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 both candidates will meet at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Ga, for a debate. The forum, which also includes a gubeatorial debate between Nathan Deal (R) and Jason Carter (D), will start at 7 p.m. and can be accessed live on www.13wmaz.com.
