An inmate at the Gwinnett County Jail hid a handcuff key in his mouth, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Reco West has been at the jail since Feb. 3. He is being held on burglary and murder charges in connection with a Norcross home invasion. During the break-in, 15-year-old Norcross High School freshman Nicholas Jackson was shot to death.

Deputies found out West had a handcuff key Friday, according to Sheriff’s Office officials. They are still looking into how he got they key and how long he had it.

Deputies searched West’s cell and determined he was hiding the key in his mouth, the Sheriff’s Office said. West faces additional charges in light of the incident.
