GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Stone Mountain woman wanted in connection with a fire in her daughter’s boyfriend’s bedroom has surrendered to authorities.

The suspect, 46-year-old Mia Hamer, got into the apartment on Highpoint Road in Snellville shortly before 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Her daughter’s boyfriend was in the shower at the time, firefighters said. There were also seven other people in the apartment, including four children, firefighters said.

According to investigators, Hamer set fire to her daughter’s boyfriend’s closet before fleeing. Others inside the apartment were able to douse it before it spread beyond the closet.

"We are fortunate that no one was injured or killed and that the fire was able to be put out quickly, said Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

After nearly a week without an arrest, Hamer tued herself in to authorities at the Gwinnett County Detention Center on Friday. She is charged with first-degree arson.
