Gwinnett County man Sterlyn Reynolds tries to snatch 10-month-old girl from Norcross McDonald's
Police have a man in custody after they say he tried snatch a baby out of its car seat outside a McDonalds.
The 19-year-old mother of the child told police she saw Sterlyn Reynolds, also 19, standing beside her before going into the fast food restaurant on 6165 McDonough Drive Wednesday.
Police say the woman, along with her baby girl and another family member, went inside. Reynolds sat at a table close to the family. The mother said that when they were done eating, they went back out to their vehicle. The mother buckled her baby in her car seat and then walked to get in the front seat of the vehicle. According to the mother, Reynolds then opened the door where the baby was sitting.
Reynolds then began unbuckling the baby and was beginning to pull the baby out of the car seat, police say. The family member ran to the suspect and began to struggle with him in an attempt to stop the abduction. During the struggle, the suspect bit the family member.
The mother began hitting the suspect from inside the vehicle while holding the baby down. The mother bit the suspect on his arm, grabbed her baby, and ran back inside the restaurant.
The baby suffered minor injuries to her arms and neck.
According to the mother, family member, and witnesses, Reynolds ran toward a neighboring hotel.
Officers quickly patrolled the area and caught Reynolds at the Horizon Inn Suites.
Reynolds was placed under arrest for kidnapping and cruelty to children.
He was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
