GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputy was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Melvin Robinson, 40, had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit, authorities said.

According to a police report obtained by Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh, Robinson was stopped by Gwinnett County police early Sunday moing after calls about a vehicle driving slowly and swerving on Interstate 85. A driver reported seeing Robinson’s black GMC Denali make a complete circle in the middle of I-85 near Pleasantdale Road.

"The vehicle was driving down the center lane, very slow speeds and was not able to drive in a straight line. A little bit of weaving there also," said Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith.

Police said Robinson also identified himself as a Gwinnett County deputy sheriff and, when asked to do a field sobriety test, told the officer, "Come on, man."

According to the report, the officer responded, ”If you really work for Gwinnett County, you know how we operate. There ain't no 'Come on, man' in Gwinnett County.

When the officer stopped Robinson, the report said he initially denied drinking, but later admitted to having one malt liquor beverage.

The Sheriff's Office emailed Kavanaugh, saying that Robinson has been placed in a non-law-enforcement capacity pending an inteal investigation and the court process.
