WOODSTOCK, Ga. — Woodstock police arrested a man Sunday in connection with an armed robbery at a local jewelry store, officials said.

Officers responded about 4:30 p.m. to the Kay Jewelers in the 900 block of Ridgewalk Parkway after receiving a 911 call reporting a robbery, according to a police statement.

Employees told police a man entered the store armed and took jewelry, investigators said. Police later identified the suspect as 26-year-old John Mendoza of Lithia Springs.

Authorities located Mendoza less than two miles from the store near Towne Lake Parkway and Interstate 575 and arrested him without incident, police said. Officers recovered the stolen jewelry and the weapon suspected of being used in the robbery.

No injuries were reported. Mendoza was taken to the Cherokee County Jail and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to authorities.

Police did not disclose the value of the stolen items or the type of weapon involved.
