Authorities say a Georgia man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body Thursday night on Interstate 65 in Lowndes County.

Investigators say 59-year old James Scarbrough and his 61-year old wife, Ester, were on their way home to Warm Springs, GA, when they got into an argument, according to Lowndes County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Marc Green.
After getting into an argument Ester Scarbrough, who was driving, pulled over into the emergency lane of the interstate at mile marker 156. That's when her husband allegedly stabbed her with a pocketknife, Green said.

Motorists, unaware of what had taken place, stopped to help.

"When they stopped to assist them, they noticed the individual had a knife in his hand and what appeared to be blood on this person. They also identified the other individual as in trouble behind the wheel," Green said.

Scarbrough had his first court appearance in Lowndes County Monday moing. The court set his bond at $250,000. He's being held in the Lowndes County Jail in Hayneville.
