Georgia AG Sam Olens Joins Fight Against Health Care Overhaul

ATLANTA -- Georgia's new Republican attoey general said he has signed on to a lawsuit against President Barack Obama's health care overhaul after his predecessor, a Democrat, refused to do so last year.

Sam Olens said Tuesday afteoon that he's joining the goveor's office in supporting the case challenging the constitutionality of the 2010 federal law. So far, 26 states have joined the lawsuit.

Former Georgia Attoey General Thurbert Baker wouldn't join the lawsuit filed last year in Florida. Former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, a Republican, hired outside counsel working without pay to sue on behalf of the state.

Olens said his office will take over the case but private attoeys will continue to assist him with the lawsuit.
