Off-duty officer opens fire outside Atlanta nightclub

- Atlanta police say an off-duty officer working security at a popular night club in downtown Atlanta was involved in a shooting early Thursday moing

The officer who was not named to protect his privacy was working security at Club La Vie at the coer of Luckie Street and Simpson Street when a fight broke out inside the club just before 2:30 a.m.

At the same time, a gunman outside on Simpson Street started firing rounds into the air, according to investigators. Police said the off-duty officer approached the man, who then allegedly pointed the weapon. That's when the officer opened fire.

The officer thought he hit the gunman in the leg because he saw the man limping down Simpson Street, but investigators said they haven't found any blood on the scene.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the person who opened fire has not been located and there's no confirmation the man was struck.

The off-duty officer was not injured during the shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over and will continue to investigate.
