Gbi Investigates Death of Quennel Moody in Police Custody
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the death of an Augusta man in police custody.
Authorities say Richmond County deputies were called to a home on Tuesday night for a domestic issue. When officers attempted to arrest 39-year-old Quennel Moody, he became combative.
Sheriff Ronnie Strength said Moody had been drinking and doing drugs. Strength said he also said he had a knife and was threatening people. Deputies sprayed him pepper spray and handcuffed him.
He died soon afterward.
Mike Ayers, special agent in charge of the GBIs regional office in Thomson, said nothing recovered from the autopsy indicates he suffered any traumatic injuries during the arrest. The GBI is awaiting toxicology reports.
