The Euharlee police chief and assistant chief have been arrested for theft of govement funds and violation of oath of office.

The GBI announced the arrest Chief Terry Harget and Assistant Chief Richard Smith in a press release sent to the media just after noon Thursday. Investigators believe the two were ”double dipping by working a second job as crossing guards for the Bartow County School System while receiving on-duty pay from the City of Euharlee.

The GBI revealed that investigators uncovered Chief Harget was getting paid for being a crossing guard while having on-duty Euharlee officers perform the job.

Bartow County School in a statement sent to the media revealed that each officer was paid $25 per day to assist with traffic control at Woodland Middle and Euharlee Elementary. They contact the GBI after they "noticed irregularities with the officers on duty."

Chief Harget and Assistant Chief Smith tued themselves in at the Bartow County Jail on the warrants, but have since bonded out.
