Gas Leak Prompts Magill Elementary School in Gwinnett to Evacuate

LOGANVILLE, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County elementary school was evacuated Wednesday moing.

News Chopper 2 flew over Magill Elementary in Loganville where hundreds of students were gathered in a field. The school was evacuated at 9:40 a.m., Gwinnett County Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said.

Gwinnett County fire spokesman Tommy Rutledge said a gas leak was reported at the school. He said firefighters were working with school maintenance workers to locate the source.

According to a Gwinnett fire new release, firefighters have detected slight gas readings on their monitors, but there is no ”active gas odor.

Rutledge said the school was evacuated as a precaution.
