JEFFERSONVILLE, Ga. - A former sheriff of Wheeler County has been arrested on drug charges in Twiggs County.

According to the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office inmate database, Maurice Lynn Johnson faces one count each of methamphetamine possession, possession of drug paraphealia. He is being held Saturday in the county jail.

The Telegraph reports Johnson, of Alamo, also received three traffic citations for following a vehicle too closely, a window tint and broken tag light violations.

This isn’t Johnson’s first run-in with the law after serving as sheriff. He was arrested in January and charged with theft after stealing 12 bales of pine straw from a private property and loading it into a county truck, according to published reports.
