Former teacher Johnny Holloway accused of doing drugs with students
Authorities have accused a former middle school teacher is accused of smoking marijuana with his students and now police think he sold the drug to at least one of them.
Johnny Holloway recently resigned from his position as a chorus teacher at Evans Middle School in Coweta County.
Holloway's attoey says the teacher was a quarter finalist for a Grammy Award in music education and he was an extremely popular chorus teacher at the school.
There was a firestorm of protest when Holloway resigned his job over what some parents at the time had claimed was a trivial charge of misdemeanor pot possession.
According to police, parents at the start of this school year contacted education officials with allegations that the beloved teacher was using marijuana with his middle school students. Police say Holloway smoked pot with his students while he drove them to a school function.
”The chorus was having a meeting at the school and they were in route to the school for this meeting when this took place, said Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs.
Newnan police say that Holloway allegedly sold marijuana to one of his students.
One September 2, a Coweta grand jury indicted Holloway on charges of marijuana distribution and delinquency of a minor.
Holloway's attoey says he is married, a father of two and has never been arrested before.
”He cares very much for his students as shown by his track record. He never had any intent to harm any student, I hope he will be judged fairly in our courts and any mistakes he may have made will be considered alongside his positive contributions to many people's lives, said Holloway's attoey.
Holloway is out on bond. His attoey says he used to teach music lessons in his home but as a condition of his bond Holloway cannot have contact with children under the age of 18 except for his own two children.
