A former sheriff's deputy has reached a plea agreement on drug and extortion charges.

In a deal with federal prosecutors, Anthony Atwater -- 33-years old -- entered a guilty plea to two charges -- extortion and attempting to aid the distribution of cocaine.

According to a Grand Jury indictment, Atwater, acting in his capacity as a Fulton County sheriff's deputy, protected drug dealers in January and March of 2010.

In exchange for a guilty plea, Atwater was charged with the two counts.

Atwater faces a possible 60 years in prison.

Prosecutors will make a recommendation to a judge as to what Atwater's sentence should be.
