Florida authorities arrested a man who they say killed his wife because she continually “nagged” him too much.

Asbury Lee Perkins II, 57, was charged Tuesday night with first-degree murder at the couple’s home after deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office found the body of Cynthia Betts, 63, wrapped in carpet in the laundry room, according to a WPBF report.

Deputies responded to the home after Betts’ father called when he couldn’t reach her, saying the couple had a history of domestic violence problems, WPBF reported.

In a post on Facebook, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said when deputies knocked on the door, all lights at the residence were immediately tued off.

Deputies said they made contact with Perkins, who said Betts had gone to visit family members. When police say they told Betts that wasn’t the case, Perkins went back inside and wouldn’t talk any further.

The sheriff’s office said deputies leaed Perkins had a handgun and, ignoring commands, saw him reaching into a drawer. Deputies then entered the house and found Betts’ body.

Police say Perkins told them he killed Betts because she took money from their banking account without his knowledge and that she nagged him.

Perkins is being held without bond at the Indian River County Jail, according to WPTV.
