Fire Lt. Todd Orr arrested in shooting that wounded pregnant daughter

The Barrow County fire lieutenant wounded along with his daughter as they struggled for a high-powered hunting rifle was charged Friday with second-degree cruelty to children, a felony, and misdmeanor reckless conduct.

Todd Orr, 46, was arrested for the Christmas Day incident at his home. It allegedly began with Orr saying he was going to kill himself, the Sheriff's Office said.

Orr's 21-year-old daughter, Tiffany Thomas, who is 8 1/2 months pregnant, and two other relatives tried to get the gun away from him, the Sheriff's Office said. Thomas was shot in her right elbow; her arm below the elbow had to be amputated.

After the bullet passed through Thomas' elbow, it went through Orr's hand and stomach. Sheriff Jud Smith said Orr lost "two to three fingers."
