Fifth Suspect Edwin Thornton In Armored Car Robberies Surrenders

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- The last of five suspects wanted by police for a series of armored car robberies in metro Atlanta surrendered on Friday.

Edwin Thoton tued himself in at DeKalb County Police Headquarters at about 11 a.m., according to a police spokeswoman.

Thoton, Ashley Henderson, 27, and Stacy Dooley, 34, are each charged with murder for the slaying of armored car guard Gary Castillo on March 15 outside a Toco Hill neighborhood grocery store.

Veronica Bullard, 32, and Quentin Booker, 34, are also charged in connection with eight metro Atlanta armored car robberies beginning in fall 2010, police said. Four of the five suspects were arrested by police earlier this week.

Friday moing, a Gwinnett County judge formally charged three of the men with multiple armed robberies that happened in that county.

Dooley and Henderson appeared in a Gwinnett County courtroom on Friday moing. Booker waived his first appearance.

The judge denied requests by defense attoeys to keep cameras out of the courtroom. Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh reported the men tried to keep their backs to the camera during the hearing, even using their jail jumpsuits to cover their faces.

The judge asked Dooley if he understood the charges against him, but Dooley responded ”not all of them, Kavanaugh reported. The judge then read a long list of charges.

The judge then explained why Dooley would not be released on bond. "Some of those have been denied because they said you're a danger to the community," the judge said.

The judge also decided to keep Henderson in jail. ”There's no bond on some of the other felonies because it says you’re on parole. Are you on parole? he asked Henderson.

”Yes sir," Henderson responded.

Kavanaugh also leaed on Friday that Dooley is wanted by police in North Carolina.

Dooley, Henderson and Booker are scheduled to retu to court in Gwinnett County on April 27.
