Female Intruder Barbara Smith Dressed in Camouflage Shot By Homeowner
Authorities say an armed woman dressed from head to toe in camouflage was shot to death by a homeowner in Cherokee County after she snuck inside.

An intruder in Cherokee County was shot to death by the homeowner. Authorities say 53-year-old Barbara Smith of Canton was dressed from head to toe in camouflage had snuck into the home of  54-year-old Fred Stanley Whitmore also of Canton.

Whitmore said he heard an intruder in the house shortly after his wife left for work. He got into a struggle with the intruder. Smith was shot with the gun she brought to the scene, according to authorities.

Baker said Smith and Whitmore were acquaintances. Smith was a registered nurse, according to investigators.

It was not immediately clear why Smith entered the home.

The investigation is ongoing.

Charges are not expected to charged against the homeowner.
